CHS ALARM PROBLEMS CONTINUE, EVENTS CANCELLED

A day after Columbia High School dismissed students early because of alarm system problems, the difficulties continued today, according to Principal Elizabeth Aaron.

She sent an email to parents this morning noting that the alarms were not working, but that fire officials were on site as per state law. It also said all after school on-site events and the Junor Parents Night set for this evening were cancelled.

See the note below:

We are still working on our alarm system problem. Today for school, we have fire department staff on site as per NJ state law in order to hold classes. If needed, we will do so again tomorrow.

All CHS afternoon on site events are cancelled, and our Junior Parent Night event is also cancelled. We will send a new date as soon as we have one. Any other afternoon or evening events also scheduled to take place at CHS today are cancelled.

In addition, some students who were not slated to attend classes until 10:45 a.m. because of the earlier PSAT testing reported that they had to wait outside for up to an hour before entering the building. The PSAT tests were apparently administered without a problem.
