SCHOOL BOARD MOVING CLOSER TO REDISTRICTING PLAN

The school board is moving ahead with plans to adopt a redistricting structure by next spring, according to notes from a meeting with the consultant hired to help prepare a plan.

The school board is set to meet Monday night and adopt the so-called "Guiding Change Document" prepared by Ross Haber & Associates of Milltown, who were hired in June at a cost of $19,500 to oversee the redistricting effort.

But the agenda for Monday's meeting -- found HERE -- does not include a copy of the change document. It only offers notes from the last meeting with the consultant in late July.

See those notes HERE.

They dictate a timeline of using enrollment projections and school capacity for the next five and 10 years and, along with input, to possibly form a new district map for each school.

It also indicates Haber will make a presentation to the board in November, with feedback from residents in December and January. A plan adoption is tentatively expected by the Spring of 2017.

Update: In response to comments on a Facebook page, South Orange Maplewood Cares about Schools, Board Member Madhu Pai indicated that the "guiding document" had not been released because the board will not see it until Monday night, the same night they plan to vote on it.
