TOWNSHIP OFFERS SNOW REMOVAL HELP, WARNINGS

                            From the Township today:

Snow Removal Tips

The Department of Public Works has been working continuously since Winter Storm Jonas to restore proper passage of roadways. Residents are able (and encouraged) to use the Citizen Request Tracker to submit snow removal, snow violations, pothole repair, and other requests from their computer or mobile app.

Please visit the Request Tracker webpage to browse for the request category you need. Indicate your name, phone number, e-mail, and address of your request location. Your request will be forwarded to the appropriate department to assist in completing your request.

DPW will continue to plow and remove record amounts of snow. In the meantime, please remember to always pile the snow behind the curb. Never throw snow in front of the curb because this only assures that the plow will plow it back in or create an unsafe road condition. Depositing snow from the sidewalk or driveway in to the road way is illegal. If you see a salt truck or plow truck driving behind you let them pass you so they can clear the way for you and open the roadways quicker.

The Maplewood Police Department would like to remind you of the following Township ordinances in reference to snow removal. Please make sure that they are followed to help keep everyone safe.

§ 239-1
Removal from sidewalks required.

The owner, occupant or tenant of premises abutting or bordering on any street in the Township of Maplewood shall remove all snow and ice from the abutting sidewalks of such street or the abutting right-of-way actually used by the public within 24 hours from the end of every snowfall or hail or after the formation of ice upon the sidewalks or abutting right-of-way. In the event of ice which may be so frozen as to make removal impractical, the ice shall be thoroughly covered with sand or salt within 24 hours from the end of every fall of snow, or hail, or after the formation of ice upon the sidewalks or abutting right-of-way so as to protect against falls.

§ 239-2
Deposit in plowed streets unlawful.

No owner or tenant of any lands abutting upon any public highway of this municipality or agent, employee, servant or contractor of such owner or tenant or person shall throw, place, plow or deposit any snow or ice into or upon any traveled area of the street or road that has already been plowed.
