POST OFFICE DEMOLITION IS NEXT STEP FOR DEVELOPERS

From the Township:

The Post Office Project Construction Mitigation Committee is preparing for demolition of the former post office building on Maplewood Avenue.  The Planning Board unanimously approved the Post Office Project site plan on December 8, 2015, a mixed use project that includes underground parking, retail and residential rental units.  It is anticipated that demolition will begin this spring.

Comprised of public safety personnel, other Township staff and Village merchants, the Committee is charged with focusing on pedestrian and traffic circulation and parking during the project’s demolition and construction.   Additionally, the Township will work with the Maplewood Village Alliance in developing strategies to assist businesses keep the usual flow of commerce.

The former Post Office building, 156-160 Maplewood Avenue, is now owned by Maplewood Redevelopers, L.L.C.  The outside lighting will remain lit along the south side to facilitate continued safe passage from the NJ Transit tunnel, and the new owner will maintain the building in all other respects.
