2015 DEVELOPMENT RAISED TOWNSHIP BUILDING REVENUE TO A RECORD HIGH

The increased development in town in 2015 also sparked an increase in permit fee and other related revenue for the Township, according to Code Enforcement Officer Robert Mittermaier.

He said his office's revenue totaled a record $1.17 million in revenue in 2015.

During Saturday's Township Committee budget hearing, Mittermaier said there had been $45.5 million worth of property development either started, ongoing or completed last year, well above the usual $19 or $20 million.

"The biggest part of that is the Avalon Property," Mittermaier said, citing the 235-unit apartment complex being built on the former PSE&G site at Boyden and Springfield avenues.

Mittermaier said the Township raised $1.039 million in permit fees. "Almost double what we ordinarily bring in," he said, later describing the development as "quite extensive, and we're not done." 

He said his office conducted 5,247 construction inspections, higher than the usual 4,200. And that does not include the pending fees, inspections and reviews for the former Maplewood Village Post Office development that is set to begin this year.
