TOWNSHIP ISSUES RAIN, WIND, FLOOD ALERT

From the Township today:

Heavy Rain, Strong Gusty Winds and Minor Tidal Flooding Wed-Wed Night

Hi Folks,

As low pressure over the south central U.S. moves north across the northwest Great Lakes late Wednesday, its’ associated warm front will move northeast across the area Wednesday evening followed by a cold front on Thursday:

This will bring minor coastal flooding Wednesday morning followed by heavy rain and strong gusty winds Wednesday afternoon and evening spreading northeast across the region.

Rain - The heaviest rain with estimated maximum hourly rates approaching 1 inch per hour is forecast from 2 pm Wednesday through 2 am Thursday.  Minor urban flooding of low lying and poor drainage areas will be likely.  There is a low probability of localized flash flooding.

Storm Total rainfall from 1 ½ to 2 ½ inches is forecast from 6 am Wednesday through 8 am Thursday.

Winds - The strongest winds will be along the coast from NYC east across Long Island and coastal CT,  where southeast winds will reach 20-30 mph with gusts near 40 mph Wednesday afternoon and evening. There is a low probability of isolated damaging wind gusts of at least 58 mph caused by isolated thunderstorms during this time.

Coastal Flooding – An Advisory for minor tidal flooding is in effect for the western shores bordering the Atlantic Ocean, NY Harbor, and the inland bays around the times of high tide Wednesday morning and for the western shores of Long Island Sound, mainly between Port Jefferson, NY and NY Harbor Wednesday afternoon.  Additional tidal flooding is possible through Thursday.  For details, refer to:
