NEW MMS STUDENT RULES BAR HATS, SANDALS AND TOUCHING

Maplewood Middle School principal Jerrill Adams, in the job for just a few months, has adopted strict new guidelines that bar items such as hats and sandals in the school, as well as the carrying of bookbags or touching anyone else.

It even designates which side of the hall students must walk on.

He has also instituted a strong detention punishment for students.

In a letter to parents today, Adams laid out the new procedures that he says are being presented to students and were created with input from a committee of instructors, adding they will be implemented on Feb. 23.

Among the strictest elements:

- It is NOT permitted to put your hands on someone else at any time.
- Walk on the RIGHT side of the hallways.
- Food and/or drink are NOT allowed to be carried out of the lunch room.
- Gum is not permitted in the building
- Glass bottles are not allowed in the building
- You cannot eat and/or drink outside of the lunchroom without a laminated pass.
- You need a laminated pass to: carry a bookbag, wear a hat, use the elevator, or eat and drink outside of the lunchroom.
- Cell phone and headphones must be kept out of site or can be confiscated.
- No hats, hoods, bandanas or head covering allowed; no sandals or shoes without backs and no undergarments can be visible.
- Offensive or insensitive clothing is not allowed

It is unclear what is considered offensive or insensitive and by whom.

The entire guideline of new rules and punishments can be found HERE.

No hands on someone else... No hugs, no handshakes, no pats on the back - seems to need a little more clarification/parameters. If applied literally then this is a problem I think.
