CHRISTIE REJECTS SUPE SALARY CAP REPEAL

Gov. Chris Christie today made clear he has no plans to seek repeal of the superintendent salary cap that he helped institute last year, the cap that even The Wall Street Journal believes drove former South Orange-Maplewood School District Superintendent Brian Osborne to a new job in New York.

Osborne, the seven-year former superintendent, left the job that had been reduced in salary from $220,000 to $175,000 under Christie's cap, for a job in New Rochelle, N.Y., that reportedly pays him $265,000.

At a press conference today in Trenton, where he appeared mad at reporters for most questions, Christie was asked about repealing the cap.

“Well there’s always criticism when educators are not being paid every nickel that they want,” he said, adding that when the law expires at the end of 2016 he will be in the discussion about it, but showed no signs of a reversal. “When something sunsets there’s always going to be a discussion. Right now, you got people who kind of just want to showboat about it.”

Yes, showboat, a word he knows well.
