PSE&G STILL DOESN'T GET IT

The rainstorm this past week that knocked out power to at least 900 people in Maplewood, and the previous one last week that hit some 3,000 residents, showed us again that the utility has still not learned the real lesson from Hurricane/Superstorm Sandy.

They seem to be touting the fact that their outage map is very detailed now and lets you know exactly how many people are out of power and how long they are expected to remain that way.

But you still have to reach out to PSE&G, often on cell phone because your landline is out of power, to alert them that you have lost power.

This should not be the case. Many utilities around the country have technology that alerts the utility to any power outage. We need that here and we need a state legislature and a governor who will push for it.

Not to mention the need to put power lines underground and with climate change getting worse and storms increasing, it is only going to become more of a problem.
