CHS PROM TONIGHT, READ PRINCIPAL'S ADVISORY, SEND US YOUR PICS

It's prom night tonight as Columbia High School students celebrate the annual dance at the Westmount Country Club in Woodland Park.

Send us your prom photos, to editor@maplewoodian.com, and we will post them.

In a related matter, Principal Kirk Smith recently issued this letter advising students that they cannot return to the prom once they leave:

Dear Parents and Guardians of a CHS 12th Student:

On Monday, June 23, 2014 Columbia High School will be holding our prom at the Westmount Country Club.  It is a wonderful event and CHS is consistency recognized by the Westmount staff as one of the best groups to hold a prom at their country club.  I look forward to this recognition for the CHS Class of 2014.

I want to share with you that students are not permitted to leave and return to the prom once they arrive.  This is standard practice to ensure that the prom is a safe student activity.  We have no restrictions on when students choose to leave the prom but we encourage them to stay to the end.  However, a trend is underway for students to leave at the mid-way point so that they may attend after-prom activities.

Once students leave the prom, they are no longer the responsibility of Columbia High School.  After-prom activities are strictly private.  We do not encourage or discourage students from attending.  Students are expected to make responsible decisions when attending this afterprom.  Please take the time to discuss these after-prom activities with your son or daughter.  Make sure that they understand that trust is critically important and they must make smart choices.

I want all of our students to have a great time and I also want them all to be safe.  Thank you.

Sincerely,

Kirk E. Smith
