TROUBLED DAIBES PROJECT GETS YET ANOTHER CHANCE IN CLOSE VOTE

In an unusual close vote Tuesday night the Township Committee voted to give the troubled Daibes Construction yet another chance to make things right on the retail-housing project at Springfield Ave. and Burnett that has been delayed and mismanaged for more than a year.

You may recall last fall the TC, and especially Mayor Vic de Luca, offered harsh criticism of the developers for missing deadlines and failing to get the project moving.

The TC agreed last night to give them another chance with an unusual 2-1 vote, with De Luca and Kathy Leventhal approving the agreement and Marlon Brownlee opposing. TC MembErs Jerry Ryan and India Larrier were absent.

The latest plan requires Daibes to begin the continued work on Monday.
