LATEST ON FATAL CAR ACCIDENT - VIGIL TODAY

Latest from the Star-Ledger HERE:

MAPLEWOOD — Sitting on her porch Tuesday night, Alison Oxman didn’t see the crash, but she heard it — knew it was coming even before it happened: tires screeching, then a kind of muffled explosion.
"I said to myself, someone’s going to get hurt," the 51-year-old South Orange woman said Wednesday, recalling the moment before the collision.
By the time she got in her car and drove around the block to the site of the two-car collision, it’s likely Kevin Noel, 21 and Tamir Harry, 16, both of Maplewood, were already dead, both men flung from their crushed vehicle, their bodies landing on a nearby resident’s front lawn.
Two other people in the car, including Harry’s brother, were critically injured.
"Horrifying" was the only word Oxman could use to describe the scene.
Wednesday, Harrison Allen, a 20-year-old Montclair man, was arrested and charged with two counts of vehicular homicide and two counts of aggravated assault by auto in connection with the crash at Essex Avenue and South 4th Street in Maplewood, Acting Essex County Prosecutor Carolyn Murray said.

A vigil is set for today at 4 p.m. at Essex and 4th streets.
