BORDEN PARK ARMED ROBBERY AND OTHER THEFTS LEAD POLICE WEEK

From Maplewood Police today:

July 28, 2013: Robbery; At approximately 11 PM, a 21 year old male, resident of Short Hills was walking in Borden Park.  He was approached by three males in their late teens.  One of the males displayed a handgun and demanded the victim’s belongings.  The victim handed over his keys, phone and wallet and the actors fled the park. An investigation by Detective Nicholas Rella led to the arrest of Bilal Patterson and Kason Culver for the robbery.  Both are eighteen years old and Maplewood residents.  They were both arrested the same day and lodged in Essex County Jail.  Bilal was held on $100,000 bail and Kason on $250,000 bail.

July 23, 2013; Cell Phone Theft; At approximately 530PM, a juvenile male grabbed an iphone out of the hand of adult female as she exited a NJ Transit bus.  The victim, a Newark resident reports that the male grabbed the phone and then ran down Ohio St towards Union.

July 24, 2013: Burglary; During the morning hours a home on Orchard Rd was entered and two laptops removed.  It is believed entry was through an unlocked window.

July 25, 2013: Motor Vehicle Theft; Between 11 AM and 1PM, a vehicle was stolen from the parking lot located at 50 Burnett Ave.  The vehicle was recovered in East Orange.

July 26, 2013: Burglary; During the daytime a home on Tiffany Pl was entered and electronics were removed.  It appears that entry was made through a window.

July 25, 2013: MV Thefts; Two Dodge Caravans were stolen from the parking lot located at 50 Burnett Ave.  One vehicle was recovered parked in Irvington and the other was recovered in Newark.

July 27, 2013: Bicycle Theft; Sometime between July 24th and July 27th, an
unlocked garage on Harvard Ave was entered and a bicycle removed.

July 28, 2013: Bicycle Theft; Sometime between July 21St and July 28th, an

unlocked garage on Manley Terr was entered and a bicycle removed.
