REWARD OFFERED IN SHOP OWNER SHOOTING


Essex County Sheriff's Office issued this notice today:

Reward Offer in Shooting of Maplewood Shopkeeper


Maplewood – Law enforcement authorities today posted a cash reward offer for information that leads to the arrest of the person wanted for an armed robbery and shooting of a convenience storekeeper.

Sheriff Armando Fontoura stated that the Crimestoppers program will pay up to $2,500 for details of the shooting which occurred on April 1, 2013 at MS&K Confectionary Store, located at 745 Springfield Avenue. The incident took place at approximately 1:00 p.m.

According to Maplewood police, the suspect entered the store, produced a handgun and demanded the shopkeeper to open the cash register. Shortly thereafter, a struggle ensued and the shopkeeper was shot once in the torso.

The gunman fled the store on foot.

The suspect is described as a medium to light skinned African American or Hispanic male, in his late 30’s or 40’s, between 6’ to 6’3” tall, wearing either a mustache or goatee
