SURVEY: MAPLEWOODIANS OPPOSE ARMED SCHOOL GUARDS

Maplewoodians who responded to our survey overwhelmingly opposed the idea of armed guards at our schools, but were split on the idea of unarmed guards.

Our survey, conduced Dec. 24 to Jan. 4, found responses to two questions.

First, asked Should South Orange Maplewood Schools have armed guards, those polled stated:

No - 67.2%
Yes - 32.8%

Second, asked Should South Orange Maplewood Schools have unarmed security guards, the findings were:

No - 50.8%
Yes - 49.2%

Sixty-six people responded to the unscientific poll.

The poll was conducted after the NRA President Wayne La Pierre suggested arming school guards in the wake of the Newtown, CT. shooting that left 20 children dead.
