On 11/06/12, at approximately 12:30 AM, Officers responded to an Irvington Ave residence on a call for assistance from that location. Upon arrival to the scene Officers DeFazio and Gyimoty spoke with the father of a 17 year old girl who was reported to have been taken by force and against her will from that location by her 22 year old husband approximately 30 minutes before the police were called. The 17 year old girl was married to her husband in an Indian religious ceremony only and the marriage is not recognized legally by the state of New Jersey.
The father, who was unaware that his daughter had been taken from the home, was alerted to the incident after receiving a call from his daughter who reported that she had been assaulted, was on her way to New York City in a taxi cab and in needed help. The New York City Police Department was immediately notified of the incident and advised of the address that the couple had previously shared in Brooklyn.
Maplewood Police Detectives Lieutenant Michael Marucci and Detective Ray Rosania responded to the Irvington Avenue address and gathered information from family members relaying those details to the New York City Police Department. As a result of a cooperative effort between the Maplewood Police Department and the New York City Police Department the 17 year old girl was located at her former residence in Brooklyn and her husband was arrested.
The Husband, Abu Maman and his brother Ismael Maman were arrested and charged by the NYPD with the assault of the 17 year old girl and the aggravated assault of a third party who was on scene at the Brooklyn residence. The 17 year old girl was transported to the hospital for evaluation and treatment of minor injuries. Maplewood Detectives charged Abu Maman with kidnapping, assault and aggravated assault. The taxi driver, Nazmul Hossain who transported the girl from Maplewood to Brooklyn was also charged with kidnapping.
The arrestees; Abu Mamun, 21 years old of 484 E. 4th St, Brooklyn NY and Nazmul Hossain, 26 years old of 484 E. 4th St, Brooklyn NY are both in Custody in NY and awaiting extradition to New Jersey on the charges.
Still seeking info on when arrest was made and why we are hearing about it almost a month later.
