SCHOOL FOR ALL TODAY

This from the district.

All District Schools Scheduled to Be In Session Wednesday, November 7, 2012

All SOMSD students will be back in class Wednesday, November 7, 2012, even though three school buildings are still without power.

The lights turned on at Tuscan Tuesday afternoon, even as plans for an alternate location for the school’s students and staff were being finalized.  Principal Malikah Majeed sent a celebratory message to her school community, announcing that the Tuscan Tigers will be back at home on Wednesday.

Clinton and Maplewood Middle School are not so lucky – both schools are still without power as of 11pm. Recognizing the vital importance of returning all students to class, administrators and staff across the district collaborated to create alternate plans to accommodate all students.

Clinton Principal Patricia O’Neill shared news with her students and staff that they will be sharing space with two other elementary schools while waiting for power to be restored.  Clinton's K-2 students will attend Seth Boyden Elementary School, and 3-5 students will attend Jefferson Elementary School.

MMS secured a place for each grade level so that classes can resume November 7th as well. 6th graders will go to the Montrose School, 7th graders to SOMS, and 8th graders to CHS.  Principal Jeffrey Truppo explained the details to his school community for the plans to resume classes.

South Mountain Annex students and staff continue to report to the “big school” while awaiting the restoration of power at the Annex.

The patience, flexibility and commitment of all SOMSD staff and families have been extraordinary through these challenging days.  The district looks forward to seeing teaching and learning taking place for all of our students on Wednesday, and to a return to normalcy in the near future.
