DE LUCA ENDORSES RON RICE FOR CONGRESS

One of the biggest fights in Tuesday's Democratic primary is the race to replace Rep. Donald Payne, who died last year.

The primary contest pits Payne's son, Ronald, against Newark Councilman Ron C. Rice, son of state Sen. Ronald Rice.

Mayor Vic De Luca came out today in support of Rice, with this announcement:

De Luca Endorses
Ron Rice for Congress

Dear Friend,

On Tuesday, June 5th, we have the opportunity to elect a new
member of Congress. I urge you to vote for Ron Rice.

I believe Ron is the best candidate for Maplewood. He is a progressive
Democrat who will challenge the right wing Republican agenda in the
House of Representatives.

Environment – Ron will promote policies that address climate
change. He led the effort to set up Newark’s Environmental
Commission and for the adoption of the city’s Sustainability Plan.
Ron was endorsed by the NJ Environmental Federation.

Reproductive Health Care – Ron will fight to protect a full range
of reproductive health care rights and services for women.

Gay Rights – Ron is a vocal supporter of marriage equality. He
sponsored legislation to set up Newark’s first LGBT Commission.

On every issue – education, jobs and the economy, health care,
ethics in government  - Ron is the best candidate for Congress.

Please join me in voting for Ron Rice on Tuesday, June 5th.

Vote 4B & 5B - Ron Rice for Congress.

 Mayor Vic De Luca

The 10th congressional district includes Maplewood, along with towns from Hudson and Union counties.

The Star-Ledger last Sunday also endorsed Rice.

With two sons of prominent public officials with the same name running, I wonder how many people will think they are voting for their fathers, even if one of them is no longer with us.
